Sleep In Heavenly Peace

What began as an act of compassion for a family in need of a bed quickly grew into an organization who has provided over 350,000 children with safe, comfortable beds. Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a national non-profit organization making a difference all around the world with a simple, powerful mission: no kids sleeping on the floor in our towns. SHP believes that every child deserves a safe and comfortable bed to support their physical health, emotional wellbeing, and mental development. The overwhelming need allowed SHP to grow quickly, expanding from a small town, to chapters all around the US, and now with national branches in four countries. Each bed is built by volunteers in the community, treated in solution for bug deterrent and wood preservation, and delivered to the family in need along with a mattress, bedding, and a pillow!

The Harbin Family Foundation learned about Sleep in Heavenly Peace through employee Brandon Clay, who shared his personal involvement with SHP and the impact the organization has made in his local community. When asked about SHP, Brandon had this to say:
“Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a great organization where the whole family can participate in volunteering. The local chapter leadership is also volunteer positions and they are passionate about the mission to see that every child in our county has a bed. I think it is so great that HLC has the heart to help local organizations that are important to its employees, such as SHP!”.

Through Brandon’s connection, the Harbin Family Foundation was able to provide support to the Westminister, South Carolina chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace with the assembly, transportation, and delivery of beds. Kaitlyn Turner, the chapter president, had this to say:
“Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a national nonprofit with a local chapter in Westminster, SC. The chapter provides beds aged 3 to 17 with a new bedframe, mattress, bedding, and a pillow to children in all of Oconee County. Since beginning in 2024, the chapter has delivered over 500 beds and currently has a wait list of around 50 children needing beds. The Harbin Family Foundation has provided funds for lumber for the beds, bedding, and the purchase of a much needed custom trailer for the stain operation. The stain is a valuable part of the building process as the stain assists in prohibiting bugs from getting onto the children’s beds. In addition to monetary donations, the foundation has provided the team with wonderful volunteers to assist in making the beds and delivering them! Sleep in Heavenly Peace is looking forward to 2026 where they continue to impact the life of children in a meaningful way, ending childhood bedlessness with a continued partnership with The Harbin Family Foundation.”
With collaboration, community involvement, and connection with our employees’ passions, the Harbin Family Foundation is grateful to provide support to organizations making a difference in our local communities – one bed at a time!
