About Harbin Lumber Company
Helping Build Dreams Since 1917
Harbin Lumber Company, Inc. began operation in 1917 after two brothers, Frank Harbin Sr. and John Harbin, were discharged from the U.S. Army following World War I. John Harbin left the business at an early age, and Frank Harbin, Sr. worked in the business until his death in 1950. During the Depression the company took the bold step of building a new lumber yard in Royston, and it was during this time that Frank Harbin, Jr. began his training in the lumber business as a young boy. After school, one of his first jobs was to pick up the nails that were dropped by the carpenters that were constructing the new building in Royston. This building still stands on the very edge of Royston today. Frank Harbin, Jr. began working full time in the lumber business in 1945 following his service in the Canadian Air Force and the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired in 1982 after 37 years as president of Harbin Lumber Company. Frank Harbin, Jr.'s son, Barron Harbin, began working for the company in 1972. During his tenure as president, HLC experienced tremendous growth by adding multiple locations and expanding our markets throughout Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Barron Harbin retired from active management in the Company in 2010 after 38 years. Presently the Company is in transition for Barron's son, Westley Harbin, to take over the business. As we approach 100 years of being in business, we are both proud and humble to recognize that only 3% of businesses make it to the 4th generation of family ownership, and we are confident in our continued success as the new generation begins its leadership.
