For the month of April, we are proud to recognize Julie Mattox as our STAR Employee. This milestone is particularly special, as May 18th will mark Julie’s 30th anniversary with Load Star. For three decades, Julie has been an integral part of our team, wearing many hats and contributing in countless ways. Her journey with the company is a testament to dedication, adaptability, and a deep passion for her work.
Julie’s story at Load Star began unexpectedly. Having recently moved back from Indiana, she visited the company to pick up an application for her brother. At the time, she mistook Load Star for another business she had read about in the newspaper. Upon receiving the application, then-plant manager Tommy Pritchett asked if she was looking for a job herself. Julie admitted she probably should be, and by the next day, she was hired. The rest, as they say, is history.
Her first role at Load Star was off-bearing on the saw, catching and stacking wood as it came through. Back then, there was no fancy equipment—just hard work and determination. Over time, she progressed to running the radial arm saw before transitioning into the office. She worked the front desk, took on purchasing, and learned design. Eventually, she moved to the main office as a credit assistant but soon returned to Load Star to further her expertise in design. When economic downturns caused significant layoffs, Julie adapted by stepping into new roles, including inside sales, outside sales, shipping, and scheduling. During one particularly challenging period, when the company had to operate with a minimal staff, Julie essentially became the go-to person for everything—earning her the well-deserved reputation of being the backbone of the office.
Through it all, Julie has maintained a deep appreciation for Load Star and its people. She credits her journey to faith, believing that she has been placed here for a purpose. She also acknowledges the support and belief of key individuals like Baron Harbin, Chris Moon, Randall LeCroy, and Debbie Harbin, who have encouraged and guided her over the years, recognizing her potential. She is especially grateful for Westley Harbin and his leadership, as he has been a steadfast source of support. Additionally, she has found great encouragement in Stephen Cain, who has shown patience and understanding during some of the most challenging times in her life.
“ Though I have spent years working with Julie, it did not take long to see her dedication to her job and her driving work ethic. Julie takes on many roles throughout each day from design to inventory to invoicing. She somehow does all of this while constantly being on the phone assisting salespeople or customers. Julie can be determined but is still willing to learn. These attributes along with her dedication to her job make her the valuable co-worker and team member that she is. “ – Randall Lecroy
When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Julie speaks of the atmosphere at Load Star. Despite its growth, the company has retained a close-knit, family-like environment where she feels valued and at peace. She appreciates the variety in her daily tasks—whether it’s designing, quoting, ordering, or troubleshooting—no two days are ever the same, and she thrives on that dynamic energy.
Beyond work, Julie’s life is deeply rooted in her faith and her love for Jesus Christ, which she believes is the foundation of everything. She finds peace in reading the Bible, drawing strength and guidance from its words. Gardening is another source of joy for her, as she nurtures her growing carrots and garlic, appreciating the beauty of creation. When she isn’t working, reading, or tending to her garden, she cherishes quiet moments of rest and reflection, embracing the tranquility that faith brings. Julie treasures the time spent with her family, including her sons, Jeffrey and Scott, and her beloved grandchildren, Alden and Anna, who call her “Gigi.”
Julie’s story at Load Star is one of perseverance, adaptability, and unwavering commitment. She has played a crucial role in the company’s success and continues to be a source of knowledge and inspiration for her colleagues. As we celebrate her 30-year milestone, we thank Julie for her years of service and dedication.
Congratulations, Julie, on this incredible achievement!
