STAR Employee Spotlight: Doyle Smith

If you’re a customer of Harbin Lumber of Eatonton, there’s a good chance that Doyle Smith plays a big role in your successful projects.  Doyle works in Inside Sales, managing orders for one of the top outside salesmen across all Harbin Lumber locations.

“He keeps me pretty busy,” said Doyle.  “I like the fact that no two days are ever the same in my job.  You never know what is coming next!”

Doyle will celebrate 25 years with Harbin Lumber this year.

“Working at Harbin is like doing what you love every day and receiving a check 2 times a month for it,” he said. “We have a great team here in Eatonton. I love the fact that Jody Page, our General Manager, does not micromanage his staff. He allows you to come in and do your job without someone staring over your shoulder every moment.”

When he’s not a work, Doyle likes to spend his time playing and listening to traditional country music; watching old comedy movies from The Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, and The Little Rascals; and watching old clips from The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
“I enjoy making people laugh and really love the comedians from old Tonight Show episodes,” he said.  “They knew how to be genuinely funny without having to use a lot of bad language.  I admire that.”
Doyle shares his home life with his bride of 29-1/2 years, his soon-to-be 13-year-old daughter, and “one spoiled cat.”
With such a heavy workload and amidst the stress of modern day living, you may wonder what Doyle’s secret is to achieving such a long and happy career and marriage?
“Life is Good. Enjoy every day with your family, friends, and co-workers.  Don’t forget to laugh!” Doyle advises.
