Dedication… This word is what comes to mind when you think of David Smith. His loyalty and commitment to Harbin Lumber Company’s door shop speaks truly for itself. You can always rely on David to stay late when you need him or even come into work on his days off. This factor alone, combined with many other attributes is why David was nominated for our February Star Spotlight.
David’s journey with Harbin Lumber began in 1980 when he originally started working at the Door Shop in the window department for 10 years. Briefly, he decided to build houses with Louie Moon and then following this he was self-employed for 10 years. After returning to the Door Shop in 2016, he worked in the interior and exterior department where he currently works now. David says “I love my job, great place to work with great people. I really enjoy what I do.”
In return, just as David loves Harbin, we love him. Eddie Wester, the General Manager of the Door Shop, spoke highly of David saying, “I started working with David while I was with Installed Sales, and he has always been great to work with. David moved over to the Door Shop a few months after I moved over here and has been a tremendous help with the growing process we are having. David always has a smile and is always willing to help anywhere he is needed. You never know where he will be, sometimes he is helping on the table in exterior, building doubles in interior, or he is building some of the custom doors that we have ordered through us. Even though he has semi-retired, you can always count on him to work overtime or come in on his days off to help get orders shipped, even when he is not asked to. His versatility has proven invaluable for us, and I appreciate everything he does for us. One thing I can always count on with David is a smile and a quick joke to make my day better just like everyone else who works here with him. We all greatly appreciate David and not just for the work that he does, but more so for the person that he is to us here at the Door Shop.”
Although he is busy working hard throughout the week, David loves woodworking in his spare time at home where he is currently working on a handmade rocking chair as well as going hunting and fishing. David is married to his beautiful wife, Denise Carol Smith, of 17 years. They had 2 children together and now have 4 grandchildren of the ages 6, 4, 2 and 1 years old. David loves spending to spend time with his family and playing with his sweet grandchildren most of all.
