YellaWood Hosts Harbin Hunters

Customers and employees from Harbin’s Lavonia, Eatonton and Athens locations were recently treated to a quail hunting experience, compliments of Great Southern Wood Preserving, a.k.a. YellaWood.           The prospective hunters began their trip with a tour of the Great Southern Headquarters in Abbeville, Alabama.  They learned the process that goes into transforming a raw pine board into a piece of building material that can withstand the elements over time. Following that, the groups attended a sport clay shoot, where they worked on their shooting skills.      After some delicious meals and some tall tales, the men headed out on the quail hunt, accompanied by some of the finest hunting assistants on four legs. The bird dogs and men canvassed the pines and fields looking for coveys of quail to flush. At the end of the hunt, participants were given their bounty – cleaned and frozen birds to take home for their families.   Our thanks to Great Southern for providing this great experience for our customers and team. ...

Big Night for Harbin Lumber at the Athens Area Home Builders Association Meeting

The recently held 2019 Athens Area Home Builders Association (AAHBA) Officers Installation & Awards Celebration saw two Harbin team members receive big honors. JR Whitfield of Harbin Lumber of Athens will serve the AAHBA in 2019 as Vice-Chair of the Associates Council. In addition he was sworn in as a 2019 AAHBA Board of Directors member. JR has been a long-time member of the association and has served numerous years as golf committee chairman and on the associates council. Another Harbin Lumber team member also received recognition.  Todd Lord, Harbin Lumber of Athens General Manager, was presented with the AAHBA 2018 Henry E. Wages Associate Member of the Year Award.  This award was established in 1987 in memory of AAHBA devoted associate member Henry E. Wages of E & W Air Conditioning.   “This year’s winner of the Henry E. Wages Associate of the Year Award has been a dedicated member of our Association for many years,” said Stephanie Johnson, Executive Officer of AAHBA.  “Todd Lord has contributed much time and energy to the AAHBA and has proven to be a member we can always call upon. His contributions and service to not just this association but the building industry have positively affected many! He is most deserving of this honor, and we want to thank him for all of the time and support that he willingly gives to our Association.” Congratulations JR and Todd!  We are very proud of you both!  ...

The Good in Goodbye

Cody Green first joined Harbin Lumber of Athens when he was a student at Athens Technical College, working at the store part time to help work his way through school. Graduating with a degree in information technology, he considered the prospect of pursuing a career in his field, but enjoyed Harbin so much he instead chose to join the Athens store as an Inside Sales Representative. He has been with Harbin off and on for nearly 7 years, and has been very dedicated to his job.  But his dedication to his family is even more commendable.  Cody is very close to his grandfather, who lives in Texas and is embracing his post-retirement life.  Cody has decided to move to Texas in order to spend time with his elder.   We will miss you, Cody.  We wish you much joy with your grandfather, and all the best in your next chapter.  ...

Harbin Lumber Thanks Veterans

A Thank You to Veterans

Harbin Lumber has helped build dreams since 1917, but it’s our country’s Veterans who have protected that dream.  On this Veterans Day, we would like to thank our Veterans for serving our country and protecting our freedoms.  Also, we’d like to honor our Harbin Lumber employees who served or are still serving.  Please join us in extending our gratitude to these very special members of our team.  Members of our team shared thoughts about their time in the armed forces with us:   “One of my fondest memories was just before my first deployment.  The day I was due to fly out to Ford Hood, Texas to prepare for my deployment to Afghanistan, I was able to surprise my father.  Seeing his face and how proud he was of me serving was truly gratifying to me, while at the same time seeing him get the recognition he deserved for the years he served at the United States Post Office and Air Force.”   —Taurus Gardin ♦♦♦♦♦   “I’ll never forget the time we were riding in a Humvee and it rolled down a mountain, flipping five or six times. Everyone was ok. They let it sit for an hour and cranked it up and kept on going.” —Michael Fulton ♦♦♦♦♦   “I joined partly because I wanted to see the world. A lot of my other family members had served in the military. The people I served with are a tight knit family. I saw a lot of...
